I Started A YouTube Channel!

Yes, you read that correctly! I finally started a YouTube channel and there are actually videos on said YouTube channel!

I can’t even believe that I’m writing this post because I always thought that I would be hiding behind a camera instead of talking to one, and I really hate some of my features so I’m surprised that I’m asking people to stare at my face for a period of time.

Starting a YouTube Channel

Equipment

I always thought that I had to have the most amazing equipment to start a YouTube channel, but you don’t really.

I used a webcam and a lamp, and ALL sorts of free programs like iMovie and Canva for my videos and I don’t think they’re that bad!

I’ve seen a few a YouTubers say that you can use your iPhone (totally possible) but they’ve also said that the Sony A5100 is brilliant. Now, this is good news for me because I already have a Sony A5100. I bought it in August 2018 when I decided that my photos needed to be better quality and I’m so excited to try it out for my next video.

Planning Content

I’m lucky that I have over 100 blog posts published so I can bring some of them to life on camera. Most of my makeup posts will be turned into YouTube videos, and my curly girl videos will too.

You just can’t get the right thing across in a post without pictures, so why not turn it into a video??

I’m not a very good planner, as Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman said “I’m more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda girl” and that is SO true! I love that freedom that creativity can give you, but if you don’t have a plan of what you’re going to film, you’re going to run out of content REALLY quickly.

I plan everything in my bullet journal, so at the beginning of each month, I write down topics I’d like to cover on the blog (and now my YouTube channel) and see which ones are speaking to me the most.

Editor

I use iMovie to edit my videos and I’ve spent countless hours watching other YouTube videos to learn how they edit theirs.

It’s taken a little while to learn how to cut the video, add music, add little text boxes… But I’m loving it! It’s such a foreign experience for me because I never thought that I’d be “good enough” to do it or make a good video, but I’m doing it anyway!

It’s all a learning experience and I can’t wait to look back on my first videos and be proud of how far I’ve come.
